A Short Story

This week I decided to find a small writing prompt to get the creative gears turning, as I was scrolling on Pinterest I found a sentence that I could start picturing a story for. Since we are basically in the spooky season, the murder mystery theme also caught my eye. One of the hardest parts of writing is starting, which it took me a while to figure out how I wanted to follow up the first sentence. I stopped over thinking and just started writing. Once I started, there was a whole story in my head that I needed to get out. Never realized how much I enjoy writing stories. I feel that Pinterest is a great tool to use to find DIY projects, inspiration for creating your own are, and even finding different writing prompts. I will shar a little bit of what I wrote from this sentence, there were no rules, just add on to the given prompt. This blog is full of different prompts and tips on writing which I will link below. Also since I've been having a bit of fun with firefly, I created some images for the story.

I continued to sip my coffee as he choked to death. It was bitter- both the coffee and the look on his face. He knew the consequences of his actions would lead him here, did he really think I wouldn’t keep my word? Poor thing should have considered using the space occupied between those little ears he never seems to use either. As he took his last breath, I looked him right in the eyes making sure I never forget that helpless look on his face. Making my way out of the back door, into the alley I hopped into Justin’s car, and we spend all day in that car. All I could do was replay yesterday in my head. Nathan’s face turning from red to purple, eyes pleading for mercy.

Nathan really underestimated me; his ego consumed him to the point where he would just laugh when I warned him about testing me. Thinking a woman couldn’t take his life so easily, without a fight. I was tired of fighting. Grateful that Justin came into my life when he did.

Justin my hand grabbed my hand and places a little kiss. "Look you don’t have to say anything, but just remember that it’s over. You’re free now.” He looked me right in the eyes. “Nathan can never hurt you again.” I still felt frozen, just as frozen as those merciless eyes.

After being on the road all day, we stopped at a motel in the smallest town I have ever seen. There was nothing but woods around us for miles. The beds didn’t look like they have been used since the 70’s, it was quaint. We both needed to get some rest, but I just couldn’t sleep. For some reason I felt like Nathan was watching me, like he was one step behind us that feeling like a pit in my stomach. It was always a fear of mine that it would have been me in Nathan’s shoes, laying there helpless as he watched me draw my last breath. I didn’t sleep at all that night.
