More Questions to ask yourself.
This week I chose another writing prompt, there was a deck of cards on the table of resources Mr. Williams left for us to use. I drew one card and took a picture of it, trying not to give myself options but really challenging myself to write about the question first given to me. The question drawn was "When I’m telling my grandkids about my life, what would I be telling them?" What a loaded question, well at least for me any question is loaded. I know in class I may not always have something to say but when I start writing its hard to stop. So what would I be telling them?
To save you the trouble of reading a novel, lets just give you a brief summary of my answer. Well to start, I would let them know that all of my journals are open to them when they turn 18. I lived so many lives in just one that it would be hard to tell it all in one sitting. My life is something I always joke that Lifetime network could make great money off of, from childhood, adolescent into teen years, or my years I lived in Chicago. The biggest thing I hope they take away from it all would be the lessons I learned, hopefully guiding them away from the same mistakes I made so they have time to learn their own lessons. And a reminder that their one true love should always be themself. Don’t spend your whole life looking for something you already have, now finding yourself will take time and that is okay as long as you are loving yourself on the process.
This project really made me want to really sit down and write about my life, and put it all into a book. Organize it all and really tell the story, there are others out there who could probably relate or inspire other stories to be told. The difficult thing would be sitting down and writing it, and getting all the details right. I struggled with really considering what parts of my life I would share with kids, maybe all the cheesy, corny stuff that would be light hearted and even romantic. Save all of the dark and tortured parts for when they get to read my journals. I do think as artist we should be keeping a journal and writing about our lives, ideas, and dreams. One day we wont be here to tell our own story, and we don't want others doing it for us, you never know you could be the next Vivian Meyer. Everyone would love what you created but never know who you really are. Maybe one day we wont have all of our senses like we do now, I feel that its very important to keep track of who we our in our own words. We all have a story worth telling, and worth knowing. We all have something to write about. I think this is a great prompt for anyone to take on, even its just your grandkids to hear it..
