What I learned this Week
Week two in Design Theory was packed full of information. Learning more about selections, masking, and more color theory. We also got a chance to dip our toes in to the design cycles, and touching base with design briefing. There are quite a few steps involved before sitting down and designing that help organize your thought process.
Before this class, my photoshop knowledge was very basic and quite honestly still is. I was always intimidated with too much masking and afraid I was over editing. Especially when it came to combining colors and textures, it is something I over think. Our travel poster was a great way for me to get out of that mindset and really just dive in. It got me out of my comfort zone, I tried not to have a design that was to busy. Although I didn’t want to have something that was too simple and bare. I can say that I’m a little more comfortable with creating selections and masking, photoshop has a ton of great tools to make it a lot easier than when I used to use it a few years ago. I still have much to learn and perfect but I am a lot more comfortable with doing so than I used to be.
Learning about the design cycles helped a ton ! I am such a list maker, and love to have all my ideas or tasks written out so everything is organized and I don’t miss anything. Design briefs are also going to be my new best friend, that’s for sure. Like I said before I tend to over think things and that is a perfect way to eliminate that process and gives my mind a way to have some order. The thumbnails I came up with were full of elements, I found that I was trying to fit too much into the poster in the beginning. Also creating a thumbnail and then trying to find photos that fit that idea rather than using your own is a challenge. It was hard for me to find photos online that fit my concepts.
This week I really got a feel for how I want to go about my next projects. As well as knowing how to plan my designs. Feeling a little more confident in photoshop, while learning to do things I’ve never really known how to do before. I’m excited to go over Typography next week and work on a magazine cover!
