What I Learned This Week.
In class we got a great refresher on all of the basic tool in photoshop, which really sparked some inspiration for me. Its true that when you take a break from designing it really takes a toll on your creativity. The last month I was in a gen ed class, watching the clock waiting for the time to pass until my next design class. Once I finally got back, it took some time for me to get back into the swing of things.I did try to exercise my creative muscle by starting a sketch book, which I plan to use to create some consistency. I tried to give myself small projects to keep my mind sharp, like in my class last month we had a chapter that covered time management. There was a blueprint for what a planner should look like and effective ways to manage your time. I decided to see what I could do and started to draft out a planner that I intend to continue working on until I have a hard copy in my hand.
When I was bored at work and had no homework to do, I played with firefly. Creating images for friends, creating characters that were inspired by the decorations at work and even creating abstract designs for my laptop background.
One thing I missed was having other creatives to bounce my ideas off of, or having a trusted source critiquing the work. I really feel that its essential to have other designers around you or on call to give to help with that as well as being there to help them with feedback on their work. I'm glad to be back in a design class and challenge
myself as we progress in school and in our field.

This is a very relatable post. When we step away from our creative muscles, it can be likened to not exercising for a year and starting back after that break. You remember how, but your muscles and endurance need a little bit of fine tuning.
ReplyDeleteWhen you wrote that you had begun a sketchbook again, I did a happy dance in my head. This will help you so much! If you can, carry that sketchbook with you wherever you go. Draw in it, OR, write or draw out thumbnails with ideas that come to you as they come to you. This will help you in all of your future creations and projects.
