Week 3 Creativity Blog
T-Shirt Designs
Since I’ve had a burning hole in my head about my portfolio, my goal is to take advantage of our creativity blog for a chance to create something I could add to my portfolio. I found a YouTube video (linked below) of a tutorial on how to create T-Shirt mock ups. This idea was sparked when I was getting ready for work and I was looking at the design on my work T-Shirt. I wear the shirt because it’s apart of my uniform but if I didn’t work there, it wouldn’t be something I would add to my closet. I noticed that oversized Tee’s are very popular, my favorites are the ones that have the big designs on the back and a small logo on the front or sleeve. So I brainstormed, grabbed some pictures from firefly and began to follow the tutorial as closely as possible. I did tweak some editing to my own preference but I did follow the steps given. Some challenges I faced were finding good quality T-shirt mock ups, and not having a pdf for the logo. I had the idea of eventually taking photos myself and creating my own mock ups for the future, and maybe even selling them as well. There are so many different ways for graphic designers and photographers to make money, I never realized how many different niche's there were.
I work at a place called Moon Mountain, which is a Vapor Cafe. There is a display of different vapes, mods, and liquids we sell on one side of the store, while the other side of the store is a bar with a wide variety of coffee, tea, kava, kratom, beer, wine, and other infused drinks. We just started serving smoothies and acai bowls as well so its very diverse. They try to market it as a relaxing place to hang out, offering different board games, card games, and even a gaming console. There are photos of astronauts and space theme media around the store. Our uniform shirts with saying "Relax," Work, Play, Chill," and See You at The Moon." So naturally I used this all as inspiration for the design I created, and tried to stay on theme with the elements around the store.
Have to say the final products still need some work but I am proud of what I did and created something I could see myself wearing. It made me excited to create other T-Shirt designs and really explore that side of design. Not only for shirts but other things like hats, bags, and so much more! Seeing the final designs I created also made me visualize my portfolio and gave me reassurance that I have potential to create something that will look professional.
