Movie Poster
It Was Always You
Creating a movie poster can go in so many different directions. You can choose, multiple elements to really create a visual story. Or your can choose one really strong scene to tell the story. With this project I really had a hard time deciding which direction I wanted to go. Its hard telling a story when you only have so much control of the content used.
I struggled with choosing on direction of using one strong image or using multiple images to help lead the viewer through the story. So in this blog I will show you two movie posters I made, just because I spent so much time on them. The last movie poster I show will not be one for the gradebook but more because I would love some feedback on the quality and if you think it executes the feel of a movie poster.
I decided to use a poster with high contrast, and a very powerful yet simple image and a small tag line to really let the image speak for itself. I have a dark, warm image, that is very tightly framed and really focused on the subject. The small tag line suggests that there maybe some kind of tension or conflict. But for the most part, the image really speaks for itself like I said before. I was afraid that this poster might be too simple and even boring or not convey the message that I wanted but then again looking at the movie poster I made before felt too busy or just ill composed whereas this image felt strong as a stand alone image.

So I wanted to tell a love story, using a photo strip highlighted with the "good memories" and the more warm hopeful, loving times. And for the stand alone picture I really wanted to convey the emotion of the main characters feeling without that love. I guess my main concern with this, is it too busy? Would I lose the viewer ? All of the questions you have when creating any art work.
I think its also important for your creating process to recognize that yes you may have put a lot of work and effort into a piece and it is not what you end up with. Sometimes its good to creative dump and get all of the "bad ideas" out first so that when you regroup you can go back and know what not to do. So as much as I loved this poster I feel like it just didn't execute the way that I wanted it to. Especially compared to the poster I created after.
