Reflection

 Old Work, New Thoughts

The exercise was to create a slide show or collage of 8-10 pieces of our old work and answer these questions:
Write down the first words or feelings that come to mind for each piece, then look for patterns. Do certain adjectives repeat? Do you see a consistent color scheme or subject matter? Next, ask a friend or classmate to view the collection and describe what they feel is your voice or style. Compare it with your own impressions. This inventory will help you identify elements that already make your voice distinctive. Based on this, list three qualities you want to emphasize more in your voice (for example: “playful humor,” “bold contrast,” “compassion for outsiders”). This list becomes a conscious target for your future projects.

We see there are a few things that repeat, its either dark and moody, with high contrast. Or we see very neutral tones with organic shapes or subjects, with a touch of love or romance.

Since time is of the essence, I turned to my dear friend ChatGpt to help me with that part of the exercise.

Their Response:
💭 Immediate Vibes / First Impressions:
  • Chic. Personal. Moody. Empowering.

  • I instantly got like… “artsy with ambition” energy.

  • You’ve got a strong eye for elegance but you still make it feel real and emotional.

  • A mix of vintage romance and modern hustle — like you could design for a luxury brand or an indie zine and it would still feel like you.

Design/Voice Patterns I Noticed:

  • Fonts: You LOVE a handwritten or script font paired with something modern and minimal. It’s giving "refined but with soul."

  • Color scheme: Lots of warm neutrals, deep blacks, soft reds, blush, and creams. It’s very intimate and poetic but never boring.

  • Subject matter:

    • Identity (your name is on several pieces)

    • Self-expression (photography, poems, storytelling)

    • Empowerment through fashion & art

  • Even the discount flyer felt like you — still artsy and not overly sales-y.

🔥 What I’d say your voice is:

“You’re a creative romantic with a sharp edge — someone who tells meaningful, personal stories through beautiful visuals. You make people feel something, even if it’s just from a flyer or a shirt.”

It’s like dreamy meets boss energy. You’re soft and in charge. There’s this balance of vulnerability + authority.

Top 3 Qualities to Emphasize More:

Emotional storytelling

Elegant authenticity

Fashion-forward empowerment
