Travel Poster

 Spain Travel Poster

For this project I though to bring back my travel poster from a few months ago, and recreate something very different as well as something that tells a story.  Spain has always been on the list of places I want to see one day, which is why I decided to retry the travel poster. When we first worked on this project I was very new to Graphic Design and I wasn't really sure how to execute the story I wanted to tell. I was afraid to get creative, use colors, and really makes something that stands out.

Taking what I have learned and what our lovely book made by Professor Williams, I created a new poster. Before I get into the poster, lets just go over a few things I've learned from chapter 1-3:

Chapter 1: The Power and Purpose of Visual Storytelling in Design
1. Visual storytelling is deeply rooted in human communication and memory.
2. Five core storytelling elements: character, setting, conflict, emotion, and resolution are essential to good design.
3. Design techniques like composition, color, typography, and pacing enhance the story clarity and emotion.
4. Case studies show real world impact of design driven stories.
5. Designers are storytellers with purpose, guiding emotional and intellectual connection through visuals.

Chapter 2: Understanding the Audience: The Key to Effective Design Storytelling
 1. Audiences want connection, meaning, and purpose.
2. Empathy requires seeing the world through their eyes.
3. Research, including demographics and interviews, builds strong audience understanding.
4. Emotional resonance drives deeper connection rather than facts alone.
5. Context (platform, culture, environment) shapes how a story is experienced and understood.

Chapter 3: Crafting the Story: Narrative Structures and Design Frameworks
1. Strong stories follow clear structure: beginning/setup, middle/conflict, and end/resolution.
2. The "Hero's Journey" creates impact for branding and campaign storytelling.
3. Design pacing and flow, control audience attention and emotional rhythm.
4. Visual tools like typography, color, and imagery reinforce story development.
5. Design frameworks (grids, timelines, layouts) bring clarity and consistency to complex narratives.

These three chapters get you stared in telling your story, the impact you can make and how to make it.

With the poster I created I wanted it to make the audience feel like they were looking at their memories, or what could be their memories. A scrapbook collage, not only is a bit of a signature style for me, but anyone can connect with that had scrapbooks growing up. As well as those who use Pinterest and are used to seeing things like that on their feed. The colors I used for the background and accent colors are from the Spanish Flag. I wanted to push my use of color since I tend to lean away from loud color choices.

From looking at my old poster next to my new poster I can absolutely
see growth, of course there is always room for more growth. I am just very proud to see how far I have come in my work and I can't help but wonder where I will be in a year from now, or even 5 years from now.
