 Sticker Design

This week I decided to use a real design I was working on, in hopes to get some feedback. I have a friend who wanted me to recreate a design made with Canva's AI feature. He gave me the building blocks and the only instructions were to 'Make it Better". So with that I immidetly went to Adobe Illustartor and began creating a similar composition and style to the reference photo. 

In the beginning I wanted to play with shapes and give it a more "funky" feel. But that design was just not visually appealing. Also this sticker is for a friend who lives in Miami, which Miami is like known for the Art Deco look. So I went back to more clean lines and even spacing. I color picked some of the colors from the reference photo once I had the design looking the way I wanted. 

Although there is something off or something missing? I can't decide if its the typeface or the design. I tried making the text 3D but I just did not really like what I was getting. I feel like I have been looking at it for too long this past week and really need to take a step back while also getting a second opinion from a designer perspective. My friend just keeps saying "that looks great" so I need a real critique. Please and thank you :')
