Logo Design

1 - Based upon the jobs you looked at and the requested skills of each, identify a piece you have previously created that you could improve to show you possess the skills being requested, or create a new project to show that you have the skills the employer is looking for. 2 - Create a blog post about this project: who is the audience, what is the message, and what are you hoping to accomplish with the piece, what design decisions did you make, and why you made each one?

Someoddpilot

Lolla Inspo

For this project I drew inspiration from the firm Someoddpilot, they created the visuals, marketing flyers, stage passes, wristbands, ect. for Lollapalooza. I want to create a brand package for a fictional music festival, that mirrors the style and showcases the capability that I can design in a similar style. They took inspo from the 90's roots, creating a style that felt like 'when xerox was a paintbrush and zines reigned supreme." 

First I started with creating a logo, I knew that I wanted to use a vinyl for the logo. Drawing inspiration from the 90's urban days when record stores were lively, and loud prints and bright colors were in. With the marketing I want to use imagery like records, classic antenna tv's, colorful geometric patterns. 

The Logo

I knew that I wanted to logo to be centered around the vinyl because the name that I first came up with was "Record Spins".  I played with different typefaces and placements, and it was lacking hierarchy as well as contrast. The logo needed to have that urban feel, that you would get from seeing graffiti in the subway or walking down the city streets. 

First Attempt

There needed to be a bold typeface but this wasn't really working for me so I continued looking for a typeface that suited my vision. Also it was lacking color/ flair. 

Second Attempt

This logo I felt drawn to the typeface but I was having a hard time marrying the two. I was still unsure how or where to use color. 

Final Attempt

This is where I started to feel I was getting somewhere. I went on Adobe Fonts and found a typeface I really loved. I was having trouble creating a logo with the words going around the vinyl so giving it a yellow highlight with some lines around the record to give it a feeling its spinning just looked much better. It gave the feeling more of what I was looking for.

What's Next ? 

With the next steps I plan on creating the main poster with the artists names, and a few promotional posters, a wrist band design, stage pass mock up, and 2 motions graphics that could be used as stage visuals. Here is a mock up of the VIP stage pass I was working on, I am going to create the back of the pass but that is still in the works, I just wanted to give you guys insight on what I am working on next
